FAQ

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, emotionally flat, or struggling to cope then counselling can help. You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear reason. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s enough.

What happens in the free 20-minute phone call?

It’s a relaxed, no-pressure conversation. We’ll talk briefly about what’s bringing you here, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels like a good fit. There’s no obligation to book ongoing sessions.

What do sessions actually involve?

Sessions are conversational and practical. We explore what’s going on for you, help you understand patterns and responses, and work towards ways of coping and changing that feel manageable and realistic.

Do I need to talk about my past?

Only if and when it feels helpful. Some people focus more on the present, others explore past experiences, we’ll work at your pace and according to what feels right for you.

Is this just talking, or will I get tools to use?

You’ll get both. Alongside emotional exploration, I help you develop practical strategies for regulation, stress, and everyday challenges, not just insight, but application.

I’m not sure what to say. Is that ok?

Absolutely. Many people come to therapy unsure how to explain what they’re feeling. Part of the work is helping you put words to things gently and safely.

How long are sessions and how often do they happen?

Sessions last 50 minutes. Most people find that weekly sessions is most effective.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I offer both in-person sessions in Ilminster, Taunton and online sessions, depending on what works best for you.

How do I get started?

The simplest next step is to send an email enquiry. From there we can book a free 20-minute phone call.
